Why Choose Barkston Ash

We are delighted that you are considering our school for your child’s education. Choosing the right school is one of the biggest and hardest decisions you will make as a parent or carer. You can read everything about a school or chat to people in the community, but nothing beats visiting the school and getting a ‘feel’ for the place.

Barkston Ash

Barkston Ash is located in the beautiful, scenic setting of a North Yorkshire village, within easy reach of Leeds, York and Selby. We are a popular and successful school, committed to supporting your child's personal development and academic achievement, throughout their primary education journey and beyond.  We are fortunate to have wonderful children, supportive parents and carers, and dedicated staff and governors in our Barkston Ash family.

"Barkston has been life changing for my child in many ways. The support and encouragement she’s received from Reception to now has been second to none, and this year she has thrived more than we thought possible...The school is wonderful and each member of staff is wonderful, too.  We are so grateful."

Our School Family

Our school is very welcoming with a real family atmosphere, where pupils are cared for and valued in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for all to thrive. Being a small school allows us to give each child individual attention, fostering a close-knit community where we all get to know each other well. With high expectations and strong moral values, we focus on developing each child’s potential, emphasising their happiness and well-being.

Our beautiful, enclosed school grounds provide an excellent space for children to learn, play, and engage in games and sports enhancing their physical development and love for the outdoors. We also place a great deal of importance on community—working in partnership with families to nurture the whole student academically, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Thorough the development of our Barkston Ash DNA, we support all of our children to be:

Respectful to all

Spiritually strong

Emotionally intelligent

Socially confident

Intellectually inspired

These values, rooted in our Catholic tradition, guide our students to become respectful citizens and lifelong learners.

We welcome applications from families of all faiths and no faith. If you are interested in learning more about our amazing school, please book an appointment to come and see our school in action! Contact details are at the bottom of the page.

All are welcome; all belong.
